A unique poetics and treatment of fibrous matter distinguished contemporary Polish textile art and formed the basis for its global promotion. The book, which falls into the reader's hands, presents, for the first time from a historical perspective, the artistic phenomenon of the formation of the "Polish school of textile art" after World War II, its genesis and consequences. The work was created as a result of my own systematic observations conducted since 1960. The phenomena occurring in textiles were subjected to critical analysis even during their birth, duration, and transience, so the book has the value of authenticity, being, in a way, an eyewitness account. This authorial status, of course, has its shortcomings. Above all, it is burdened by the inevitable subjectivity of the perspective from which no author is free. While writing the book, these subjective opinions were confronted, as far as possible, with published assessments of other critics and researchers of the problem, verified by the time that has passed since the events described and commented on, most often exhibitions, creating the necessary perspective for assessing their historical significance.
