Monographie rétrospective de Jean-Christophe Norman qui fait suite aux nombreuses expositions, voyages, performances et invitations dans des institutions françaises et étrangères (Mac Val, Musée Picasso, Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel, BIENNALSUR) et qui relate les riches liens qu'entretient l'artiste avec la littérature et le voyage.

Mundo diffuso réunit un ensemble de textes de spécialistes de la littérature et de l'histoire de l'art qui ont plébiscité un travail situé à exacte distance entre l'art contemporain et la littérature, de même qu'un abondant corpus de photographies où l'on voit l'artiste performer d'un bout à l'autre de la planète. Pour Norman, il ne pouvait être question d'envisager une autre pratique que celle de l'art contemporain comme substitut à la quête des sommets qui auparavant mobilisait toute son énergie. Dans ses performances au long court (Ulysse, a long way) dans lesquelles l'artiste réécrit à la craie sur les trottoirs des métropoles l'épopée de Joyce, comme dans ses impressionnantes fresques où sont rendues visibles d'un seul coup d'œil l'intégralité d'une œuvre littéraire majeure (Terre à terre, Mac Val), l'artiste revendique une pratique extrême qui lui permet de mettre en mouvement la littérature et ainsi de briser les frontières entre ces deux disciplines. Lionel Ruffel voit dans l'œuvre de Norman « un scénario anthropologique sur l'histoire de l'humanité littéraire, cette humanité qui trace des lignes et forme des nœuds, alors qu'elle se confronte a sa propre extinction », pour Thierry Davila, l'œuvre de Norman est éminemment mallarméenne « elle fait du monde le lieu du livre, de son déroulement physique. »

Mundo diffuso brings together a set of texts by specialists in literature and art history who have praised a work located at the exact distance between contemporary art and literature, as well as an abundant body of photographs where the 'we see the artist performing from one end of the planet to the other. For Norman, there could be no question of considering a practice other than that of contemporary art as a substitute for the quest for heights which previously mobilized all his energy. In his performances in the long run ( Ulysses, a long way ) in which the artist rewrites in chalk on the sidewalks of the metropolises the epic of Joyce, as in his impressive frescoes where are made visible at a single glance the'Down to earth , Mac Val), the artist claims an extreme practice which allows him to set literature in motion and thus to break the boundaries between these two disciplines. Lionel Ruffel sees in Norman's work "an anthropological scenario on the history of literary humanity, this humanity which draws lines and forms knots, while it is confronted with its own extinction", for Thierry Davila, Norman's work is eminently Mallarmean “it makes the world the place of the book, of its physical development. "

Deeply influenced by Borges, the work of Jean-Christophe Norman (born in 1964, lives and works in Besançon) takes the form of performances , marches, writings, photographs or drawings to question notions of time, territory and copy.
Since 2006, Jean-Christophe Norman has been developing a series of systematic explorations of large urban complexes around the world with principles of analogy, superposition and evocation of other geographical spaces by reproducing precisely by walking the contours of one city in another.
