Das Basler Staatsarchiv wurde in Jahr 1989/99 vollständig renoviert, auch die Außenanlage, speziell der Sandstein-Bodenbelag mußte ersetzt werden. Der Künstler Rémy Zaugg (1943-2005) wurde beauftragt, den Zugang im Hof der Anlage zu gestalten.

Es ist ihm eine Arbeit gelungen, die einen aktuellen Gegenakzent zum historischen Gebäude setzt und in Form eines Steges die Außenwelt mit der abgeschlossenen Sphäre des Archivs verbindet. Der von Rémy Zaugg selbst initiierte und realisierte Band dokumentiert akribisch dieses Stück Kunst im öffentlichen Raum

The Basel State Archives were completely renovated in 1989/99, and the outdoor area, especially the sandstone floor covering, had to be replaced. The artist Rémy Zaugg (1943-2005) was commissioned to design the entrance in the courtyard of the complex.

He has succeeded in creating a work that sets a contemporary contrast to the historical building and connects the outside world with the closed sphere of the archive in the form of a footbridge. The volume, initiated and realized by Rémy Zaugg himself, meticulously documents this piece of art in public space.
